About Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is Tanzania's fourth largest park, covering an area of approximately 1,250 square miles. It is located near the city of Morogoro and bordered by the Uluguru Mountains to the north. The park serves as a habitat for an extensive range of wildlife species, including elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and an array of bird species. Its proximity to the Selous Game Reserve ensures a robust wildlife corridor. The main vegetation consists of savannah plains, which attract numerous herbivores, making it an excellent area for predators. Historically, Mikumi was established in 1964 and has since become a key player in Tanzania's conservation efforts. Visitors are welcomed to explore its landscapes through guided game drives, walking safaris, and birdwatching tours. Notable highlights include the Mkata Floodplain and Hippo Pools, where visitors can observe hippos and other aquatic life.
